  • Q: When can I access my storage unit?
    A: Each American Self Storage facility maintains office and access hours suitable to its market area. As long as you remain current with your rent payments, there are no restrictions to your access during the posted access hours on our website and at each facility.
  • Q: How do I know my belongings will be safe?
    A: The security of your valuables is a priority at American Self Storage. Our 24-hour state-of-the-art video surveillance system and other security features help to provide you peace-of-mind when storing with us. The only ones with access to your unit are you and anyone else you authorize when you moved in. It’s your lock and it’s your unit. Moreover, when you take advantage of our Diamond Protection, this further safeguards your personal effects for your peace of mind.
  • Q: Are there any restrictions as to the items stored?
    A: Yes. For obvious reasons, you are not allowed to store perishable items (such as food), or hazardous or flammable items (such as gasoline) In short, any items posing a danger to any of our tenants or their belongings may not be stored.
  • Q: What documents do I need when renting a storage unit?
    A: When renting a storage unit you will need a photo ID and preferably a credit/debit card. We recommend that you enroll in our "Easy Pay" payment plan to ensure you don’t forget to pay your storage bill and to avoid unnecessary fees.
  • Q: What type of payment options do you offer?
    A: We accept all major credit cards, personal or business checks, money orders, and cash. You can make your payments either online from our website, stop into our office to make your payment, mail in your payment, or take advantage of “Easy Pay,” which automatically deducts your unit rent monthly from your credit/debit card.
  • Q: Am I tied down to a long-term lease or do you offer short-term rentals?
    A: Our rental agreement is on a month-to-month basis. You can stay as long as you wish or as little as just one month. When it comes time to vacate your storage unit, you will need to notify the office staff at the facility, in writing. On the day of your vacate you will need to sign a form to officially terminate your lease.
  • Q: Can I change the size of my storage unit?
    A: Yes. If you ever need more or less space, speak with the office staff at the facility and they will help find the right space for you.
  • Q: Do you sell boxes and other storage or moving supplies?
    A: We provide a wide selection of affordable moving, packing, and storage supplies to make the process easy, convenient, and safe. In addition to all size boxes, we sell locks, bubble wrap, mattress and sofa covers, tape, wrapping paper and more. Check out the “Moving & Packing Supplies” page on our website for more information.
  • Q: Do you offer use of a truck?
    A: Most of our facilities offer the free use of a truck for your move-in. In our New York facilities, we even offer a driver to make your move even more convenient. Call the facility in your area to find out availability and policies.
